According to the information from Center for Countering Disinformation, a working body of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, the Investigative committee of Russia has joined a large-scale information campaign aimed at artificially identifying Ukrainians with nazis and creating an ideological justification for the modern war.
The russian agency accuses Ukraine of “genocide in Donbas”, directly comparing the actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with those of the Nazis during the Second World War. This is a cynical manipulation: the propaganda of the aggressor state is trying to equate the crimes of Hitler’s Germany with Ukraine’s defense of its own territories.
This activity is part of a systematic campaign timed to coincide with Russian “day of remembrance for the victims of the genocide of the soviet people”. The mass involvement of state agencies in the campaign shows that the kremlin’s real goal is not to honor the memory of the dead, but to engage in anti-Ukrainian manipulations.
Such propaganda deliberately ignores the fact that Ukrainians, as part of the soviet army, suffered huge losses and made a significant contribution to the victory over nazism. russia is once again rewriting history – they are trying to “erase” the Ukrainian people from the list of victors over nazism, monopolizing this role for the russians.During World War II, Ukrainians made a significant contribution to the victory over nazism, distinguished themselves with heroism, courage and self-sacrifice on all fronts and in many armies of the Anti-Hitler Coalition. Millions of Ukrainians resisted with weapons in their hands in various regular armies of the world, hundreds of thousands fought as members of partisan movements. Almost all Ukrainian enterprises were reoriented for military production. Ukrainian land was one of the main theaters of hostilities, a place of large-scale battles and the fiercest resistance. More than 8 million Ukrainians died in World War II. In total, WWII claimed the lives of, as per different estimates, from 50 to 85 million people around the world.
In order to prevent wars, and genocides and violations of human rights and freedoms, the victorious states created the United Nations. Ukraine became its co-founder.
No country can claim an exceptional role in the victory over nazism. The victory is the result of the titanic efforts of dozens of states and hundreds of peoples.
